I'm happy if anyone with more knowledge corrects me...
In brief:
D&D Beyond is an independent licesnsed retailer & a dedicated Dungeons & Dragons virtual landing pad (for lack of a better term) for the table top roleplaying game in its current 5th edition. In which, the site is best utilized by users as a character generator, a store via its Marketplace to purchase legitimate digital-only official sourcebooks (not physical copies) for usage within this site (also with an offline app available to view these purchases abd books), and other features to empower and enable users to play the tabletop rpg whether in person or virtually using their preferred methods (zoom, a virtual tabletop like Roll20, Foundry, etc.). Also the site features articles/columns from their staff on a variety of topics.
Although it's my understanding that D&D, as a brand and concept, has been adapted to other platforms throughout the years, such as PC games, video games, phine based app games, stat card wargaming, etc. those other products are not supported by D&D Beyond. This site is a tool for those players who are engaged in playing the popular tabletop rpg. I personally wouldn't be able to advise of any particular video game style D&D but am hopeful others can chime in to point you in the right direction should that be your preference in engaging the D&D brand.
Best of luck to you! These forums are Full of knowledgeable and helpful community members.
