Hoping someone can help me with the Homebrew creator.
One of my PCs has recently acquired a pair of mechanical (additional) arms. We've decided that these arms will allow them to make limited additional attacks with their equipped weapon. One of the restrictions on the item is they have to use their intelligence modifier for this attack, which is where I am running into issues.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to make such an item work in DnDBeyond? Ideally I'd like it to be able to show up in the PCs actions tab (similar to the Psychic Blades of a Soul Knife).
I've tried basing it on a shortbow, but I can't figure out how to switch it from Dex to Int. Thanks for any help you can give!
You'll need the player to make a custom action on their sheet, picking "general". From there they can put in and build the action they need using whatever ability score they want for whatever damage they want.

So what I just learned is you can make a custom feat, and add a custom action to that feat. If you flag that action as an attack, you can assign it a non-standard ability for the attack and damage rolls. The idea is that when your player gets the item (which you just make as a Wondrous Item rather than a weapon), you also grant them that feat, and the attack will show up.
This mostly works for what you'd need but there are two considerations. One, you have to assign proficiency to the attack in the feat, which may be no problem. If you know the PC will be proficient with the attack, just add it and the attack roll bonus will adjust. If not, or if you're not sure, the PC can add their proficiency bonus (if it turns out they need to) by customizing the attack and giving it an attack bonus equal to their proficiency bonus. That works but it's just something to keep in mind as they level.
Second, as far as I can tell you can't have the item automatically grant access to the feat, which would be nice. Magic items do have a "feat" Modifier option but it looks like it's just a pre-baked list of official feats, and won't include your custom one. So you just have to remember to give the PC the feat when they get the item and remove the feat if they lose or discard the item.
I think you can also add that to a magic item and don't need a feat. However, the magic item must not be classified as a weapon, choose 'wonderous item' instead.

Using magic item maker? Nope.

I couldn't figure out how to add an action/attack to an item itself. Is there a way to do that?
Edit: I mean specifically to a non-weapon item (Wondrous Item).
my bad, I thought it was possible, but I was mistaken... feat it is, then.
