I have a character that is transitioning to another class for reasons. Is there a way to clone my character so I don't have to input all of my gear again. It would be faster and easier to just change my class.

There are currently no ways to copy characters. However, as you mention, you can change every facet of your character by clicking the dropdown menu at the top left on your character sheet (at the character portrait) and then clicking Edit Character. You can change race, class, background, name and anything else you need to.
I do not know whether copying characters is in the development plan for D&D Beyond, but there is a major revamp on the way for the character system here. More information is likely to be revealed at this month's live development update (this Friday, 19th). Check out the thread here for more information and feel free to post your own questions.
Thanks for the quick reply. The problem remains that I'll probably make the transition in the middle of a session and I'm not sure what level I'll be so I would like both character sheets handy.
BTW, are all threads created by new users initially marked as spam? I looked through the forum guidelines and could not see anything. That was a bit ... disconcerting.

I understand and sympathize, unfortunately there's no other way yet at the time of posting. If you have enough free character slots you could consider making the character from scratch without bothering with items, and when the time comes to transition, simply use this new one as a ready-made reference to edit and convert your existing sheet. I'm not sure if that's more or less effort for you, but I wanted to throw it out there.
As to the thread being marked as spam, no—this was an odd blip by the filter. You should be fine going forward!
