Currently the Net fails to describe the size of a net players can equip, yet commonly in the Basic rules describes the size of creatures a net can restrain is up to large, so 10ft square. Furthermore, this correlates to the general size of the Basic Rules guide to the Falling Net trap. I see 2 formats available:
The Fishermans Friend (5/15 ft range or for Sailors Background 10/20 range +two handed and +finesse); Intended for the sailors background providing proficiency with Harpoons and Nets granting nets the Finesse trait. Creating a Two Handed Net that can target a single target with disadvantage at 5 ft with an unfurled net. Casting the net with a Fisherman's finesse at double range it will spread to the 10ft square to restrain either one large creature or up to 4 medium or smaller creatures, on a failed DEX save (DC 8 + DEX + Proficiency). From 15ft enemies gain advantage on their DEX saving throw. A guide rope can return the net to the fisherman.
The Gladiators Net (5/15 ft range Heavy, for Gladiator background 10/20ft Range, +One Handed +Reach property; A Smaller chain net that within 5 ft can be used as an offhand flail for 2d4 damage or used to restrain one Medium or smaller target. if a target finishes a turn on a tile when the net missed the Gladiator can use reaction to knock the target prone. beyond 10 ft the net must be retrieved.
Escaping either net requires a STR/ INT check to help a victim out from a non restrained creature. Tiny creatures can attempt a DEX save or 1 instance of damage, Small Must make one STR or 1 Damage instance, Medium Require 2 STR or 2 Damage instances, and Large require 3 STR or damage instances (Escape damage instances require dealing 5 slashing damage to the 10 AC of the rope net or 10 slashing damage to the 20 AC chain net).
If anyone has time to make the itempages, it would be nice to see.
