Been making an arcane trickster and I saw melf's acid arrow spell, tried digging into it a bit but didn't get a clear answer so would sneak attack apply to melf's acid arrow or is it just its own damage?
The Arcane Trickster's magical version of a "Sneak Attack" doesn't come online until 9th level, unfortunately, but it is a decent one. If you're hidden when you cast a spell that calls for a saving throw at a target, the target has disadvantage on the save. Granted, that won't help for Acid Arrow, but it definitely gives spells like Hold Person, Phantasmal Force, and Web some extra kick. Generally as an Arcane Trickster you want to use your spells for control effects and stick with weapon attacks as your primary damage sources.
An acid arrow, can't apply Sneak Attack because the attack is not made with a ranged or finesse weapon. On the other hand, magic stone with a sling could apply Sneak Attack if you can learn it somehow.

FYI to OP, this is not clearly defined in the rules, nor is it an opinion shared universally. Your DM may well rule that since magic stoneexplicitly makes a ranged spell attack, and not a finesse or ranged weapon attack, it too is not eligible for Sneak Attack, whether you hurl it from a sling or not

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
While not universal its an opinion shared by many including the Developper on more than one occasion, because rule-wise Sneak Attack doesn't specifically require a melee or ranged weapon attack.

Sneak attack requires a finesse or ranged weapon. Melf's acid arrow is a ranged spell attack. So, sneak attack damage doesn't apply.
EWhitehart is correct. Unfortunately it doesn’t work with sneak attack
