This is great for meeting people to play with online, but if you want to meet in person and actually play at a table I'd recommend looking up your local game store to see if there's anything. Adventure League is a good place to meet other players and maybe scratch that D&D itch without committing to a full campaign with strangers.

Local game store/AL seconded. D&D is so much more fun in person. Sure, if you don’t have interested friends in your area, online is okay, but if you can play in person, it’s the best, especially when you’re just starting out.
You could hit up Discord or Meetup for gaming groups. There is most likely someone in your area. Also, if you go to https://www.midgardadventures.com/, they have organized play using the Kobold Press Midgard setting, and they constantly advertise games and campaigns to join. Roll20 is another hit a miss source of games, although many of them are not free.

There’s a looking for players and groups forum also. Might have better luck looking through or posting there.
