My warlock currently has the chain pact and the eldritch invocation of Investment of the chain pact, using a familiar: imp or sprite normally.
I am going to choose a magic item between: Rod of the Pact Keeper +1 or Wand of Magic Missiles.
1. If I use Wand of Magic Missiles it would be carried by my family member who would use it on their turn and I would not have to spend my own action. Extra damage.
2. Or use Rod of the Pact Keeper +1 myself to give me the improvements of said object, which are: While holding this rod, you gain a bonus to spell attack rolls and to the saving throw DCs of your warlock spells. This bonus is determined by the rod's rarity. In addition, you can regain one warlock spell slot as an action while holding the rod. You can't use this property again until you finish a long rest.
What's the deal with this family member? Is that another PC? An NPC? If an NPC are they going to be sticking around in the long term? Are they a commoner likely to get squashed after they shoot magic missiles at some monster and make it angry?

Pretty sure that was supposed to be "familiar", not "family member".
edit: on topic - how many of your spells allow for a save, and how important are those that do? Your spell selection will have a big impact on how much you get out of the rod.

Okay yeah that makes a lot more sense lol.
How much more durable are the pact of the chain famliars? Normal famliars are built from tissue paper and so I would expect to get instantly stomped on if they're trying to do stuff like cast magic missiles and you're up against enemy casters or ranged attackers. My gut says to go with the rod.

The Rod of the Pact Keeper gives a bonus to hit to Eldritch Blast as well as boosting the save DC of spells. It’s a no brainer. Every warlock wants one!

What option do you think is better?
