How does a player go about shooting a flaming arrow, like in the movies? Is there a procedure or set of rules? The arrow itself won't just catch fire and if you put a rag around it and light ir, then it can go out and also the thing not stay light.
I have a friend in Federal Prison and he is a DnD FREAK! He sent me an email asking if I can find some answers for him... thanks ahead of time!
Historically, flaming arrows were rarely used, as they are not that effective.
Disregarding 'realism' in favor of 'game fun' is always an option, though.
I would probably think to add an extra +1 in fire damage to such a piece of ammo and give it a chance to ignite flammable objects that are not being worn/carried.
My reason for that is that the 3rd level spell flame arrows adds a d6, and I would want to balance it against that.
