I just got an email stating that the estimated arrival date of my phb2024 pre-order on amazon was changed to October 1st. The reason listed is a change in the release date. Was the release date moved in general or is it an amazon specific issue?

Sounds like something you might need to ask Amazon about; my preorder from WotC still says September 16.

16th I thought it was 17th and ppl who subbed to beyond get it a week early for low tier and 2 weeks high tier so wouldn't that be 9th and 5th ish?
Wouldn't be the first time Amazon was ahead of WotC on release delay disclosures. Heck some people hawk Amazon to get scoops on product announcements too. The other possibility would be a localized Amazon delay due to some issue within the jurisdiction of a specific fulfillment center. Amazon product listing on my browser right now says product releases Sept. 17, earliest delivery available Sept. 19, and free shipping by the 23rd.

Implementing any of those changes would push the book's release date to next year. At this point, the books are already printed, they're not going to change things.
Amazon changes release estimates all the time thanks to a combination of the arcane way they track stuff in their fulfillment centers and the fact that half the stuff offered for sale on Amazon is not actually coming from Amazon but from a third-party vendor.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Yeah, book's already in reviewer hands. If there's some delay it's a logistics / supply chain thing. Book of Many Things had an issue with packaging and materials and was delayed to resolve that, but you're not going to see revisions and sudden surprised inclusions because of DDB threads and YouTube vids.

Not heard anything from WOTC about my preorder with them being delayed so probably an Amazon only thing
I think if it was it be huge news to delay it a whopping 2 weeks

My local game shop still has the original release date for the alternative cover. So I'm assuming everything is still good.
I'll keep an eye out for any changes, though. The folks at my local store are very much on top of things. They'd know if something was up.
It says 9.19.2024 on the amazon page for pre-ordering the PHB for me. I have not ordered it but that is what is being advertised.
