Ive been looking at buying content to share with my friends but i have a couple of questions:
- After they join the campaign with the shared content, can they create characters outside of that campaign using the shared content, or if not, can they create multiple characters in one campaign? basically are they able to make characters with the shared content outside of the campaign the content is shared it?
- And if i wanted to play as a character and have one of my friends dm, do they have to use my account to have access to the tools i paid for, or are they able to create encounters and campaigns with the content Ive shared with them?
They would not have access to the shared content within the character creator outside of the campaign. That being said, yes they can create multiple characters within the campaign.
They can create a dndb account and campaign and you can join as a player and share your content with them to use for encounter building and what-not. The other players would also get access to this shared content as well for characters/classes. So long as it is within the campaign.
If they're worried about that limit they could always create a character > export to PDF > delete the character on the site > make new character. This way they would have the sheet on-hand if they ever needed a slot but didn't want to lose a chracter.
okok, thanks a lot for your help with this. But anything you wish you knew before buying that bugs you? I always try to research before large purchases
I'd just recommend making sure that you enjoy the digital compendium and sheets. Maybe try a one-shot using the limited free content just to see. Save you some buyers remorse if you don't jive with it.
Personally, I've been with the Master tier for years and have no complaints. It does what I expect and has come a long way. I'll renew bi-annually and forget about it. My personal favorite is the party summary the app offers DMs. Yet, I know its not a medium for everyone. My wife despises digital content and would rather have her tomes with bookmarks a-plenty at the ready.
Don't forget you would need the Master Tier sub to share the content.
As for anything I wish I knew? Look through what each book offers (you can view what they offer piecemeal) if it's realistically not something you think you're going to use?
Buy piecemeal, or just ignore the book entirely.
I will say, for character creation: PHB, Xanathars, Tasha's, Volos, and SCAG are your best ones for unlocking races/subclasses/backgrounds. There might still be a few here and there that you don't have access to, but it'll open up the most options for your players.
For you as the DM, DMG and Monster Manual will get you by the most.
Or if you have the $$ and just want it all, go for the legendary bundle (or one of the other bundles).

and they would still have the 6 character limit within the campaign unless they buy a subscription themselves correct?
Correct!
