I was first introduced to dnd by playing pathfinder, and my favorite class was the summoner. I am currently level 5 in my campaign, and want to re-create it. It basically is a person who has a companion that every time they level up, they can change it, and it has evolutions it can take, and it also can basically be a sidekick, but the character is more focused on minor spellcasting in the background. Also, there are some bases for it, like serpentine, biped, quadruped, and aquatic. I did find a homebrew one on *******, but my dm says the only homebrew we can use is the UA homebrew I’ve been working on. Is there a way I can do this?

Not really. 5e doesn't have a lot of support for summoner type classes because it just takes the wind out of combat. Rangers have their companions, and particularly Drakewarden is the closest to having a companion that naturally gets stronger. Artificers and the Battle Smith subclass has a steel defender, but I don't think it's what you're looking for.
What you want is a slurry mix of Ranger (animal companion), Artificer (Battle Smith), and maybe Warlock (Chain Pact) features. Failing that, I've seen multiple shots at a stand-alone homebrew Summoner class. I'm sure just Googling "D&D 5E Summoner" would bring up tons of options that you can pick through to see what comes close to what you want.

I'm glad I clicked on this thread cause I actually played (for an extended period of time) a homebrewed 5e conversion of pathfinder's summoner. I played from level 9-17 so idk much about it's early game balance, but in the context of our game, it wasn't broken in the slightest.
I'll look for the pdf if you want it!

It pronounced Den Sake. It is not Japanese.
Website character sheet not working fix (Hopefully)
Semi-Expert at homebrew, just ask for my help.

It actually helps out. I think the drakewarden is the best.
