... as a player species... reading it, I no longer see the note that they don't have their "own voice" and can only mimic the voice of others they've heard.
I see they still have the ability to mimic voices, but the curse of not having their own voice seems to be gone?

Yeah, that's classified as Forgotten Realms-specific lore, I believe, so it got removed.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
