Why do we gotta purchase the Player's Handbook? I mean it has plenty of basic D&D items and reduces the amount of things D&D Beyond users have access to if they can't or simply don't wanna purchase anything. (Just realized I sound dumber than I actually thought this would sound but oh well)
Because you don't have to. As mentioned before, the free tier which provides the basics is free. The PHB is actually moving into premium tier, with extra but not stricrly necessary options and rules.
I mean, I don't think a game of D&D using only free stuff is really D&D (too limited), but it's possible to only use free stuff. WotC has gone down the model of having SRD free and available, then they sell you all the nice flashy stuff. Can't disagree, personally. I just wish they'd included everything necessary to run a proper game in the PHB.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Here's what I've noticed after my many years of playing and few years of DMing... play with the free until you feel it's worth the investment to add additional content. If you and your party can play off of the free material, you'll have a blast doing so! Once you feel it's worth adding more, work with your party and build your library. Weather you do it on beyond or as physical books it doesn't matter.

You don't gotta. Plenty of stuff is in the Basic Rules and SRD, and thus freely available to all users.

Just buy the actual book. You can access it at any time or place, no internet required. (No, I’m not acting like an old man.)
