Apologies if this post is in the wrong place. Oh, and I typed this on an iPad so formatting is gonna suck.
Me and my friends are finally playing D&D for the first time, with a slightly more experienced DM.
I just wanted feedback on how my character is. I feel like I’m making what is essentially Every New Player’s First Character, and I don’t wanna be that guy
It is hard to tell if you will be "That Guy" as you put it. Honestly I don't think it matters much, if. you have a good DM and he has done this for a while play this character they way you see him in your head and it wll be fine. How ever if you want feed back:
Overall your stat distribution is not optimized for peak barbarian performance so you get a plus there. Your stats overall are very high, if this fits your DMs world then perfect. For my campaign, it would not fly. It is actually good to have a thing or two you are not good at and I find it makes the game more fun for the players.
We are also missing your backstory and background. This is most of what makes up your character and will make you "that guy" or not. Who are you?
Hey, thanks for the feedback. My DM has confirmed that my character stats are good. As for the backstory, idk if you’re saying that you can’t see my backstory, or if it needs rewriting.
If you simply can’t see the backstory, here:
After running from home at 18 to escape conflict within his hometown, Hiythas lived with a clan of Goblins in the woods for 5 years. After accidentally killing a member of the clan whilst hunting, Hiythas framed another Goblin in his panic, and ran away from the tribe after the guilt got to be too much. After learning to fend for himself for a year he knows only cunning and violence. Although he still yearns for friends, another part of his brain trust nobody and refuses to form bonds easily.
No clue why it wouldn’t show up.
If you could see it and you think it needs changes or a rewrite, in what ways, and how?
Just make sure you run all those feedback with your GM just in case. Different GMs care about different things. Since they are running the game, they have the final say on what goes and what does not.
I would ask your GM first before changing anything. You do not want to create more work for yourself if it is not necessary. And to me, the character is fine.
