I (16m) am having trouble finding a serious group to play D&D with. I have been told to look into playing online, but I have not figured out how to do that.
edit: also if you have advice finding the right group that will also be helpful.
Be aware that finding the “right” group online can be a little difficult for a player. DMs are in high demand while players exist in high supply. The best steps I can suggest would be to look at the Looking for Group section of these forums below on the main page of the forums. Scan through and see if anything grabs your attention, reaching out immediately if so. After that, join the D&D Beyond Discord and they have a similar channel there. Lastly, create or sign into a free account with Roll20 and look for their own similar main forums and posts. For all of this, be aware that some groups ask that you pay (per session most often) for the privilege of pay, which I never would. Also, scan the post to make sure you’re willing to take the chance.
If you have a reddit, I would suggest looking at places like r/lfg (looking for game) and other DND forum hubs. Also, DNDBeyond has a Discord server where you can post about you looking for a game.

Thanks! Luckily I am willing to DM.
