Hi, I am currently writing a campaign, and I want to give some areas a practice playthrough, but I cannot find a way to properly run an encounter using D&D Beyond.
As an interim solution, I can run the encounter, properly manage the NPC's, but the PC's cannot interact with the encounter after initiative.
1. What am I doing wrong?
2. is it possible to be DM, and a player? how?
3. Even when I make characters, and 'claim' them, the campaign shows 0 players. Is there a way to fudge this without having the PC's involved?
To run an encounter, you need to build it in the encounter builder, save it, and then select the Run Encounter options. This will allow you to track initiative and hit points of the participants.
Current character sheets don't 'interact' with the initiative tracker beyond sending initiative rolls and hit points to the tracker.
You can be a DM and player by adding your own character to the encounter.
The number of players a campaign has only represents the number of non-DM players in the campaign, it doesn't affect encounter building or tracking initiative. That is determined by characters.

--This is how I ran it. It will not let me track hit points of the characters. Just the 'monsters'.

-- This answer makes me suspect that my solution is to have a tab open for every character in the encounter at the same time as I am running the encounter. I will try that

-Thank you
So I just tested, and that fixed it. I was trying to run the entire encounter from the encounter page, and not running the players seperately off of their character sheets. Thank you Davyd!
