Hey! My DnD group has been using DnD Beyond and Roll20 together for years to manage our games. We have recently had a lot of frustrations with Roll20 with them overcomplicating a lot of things and under developing things that we would like to be higher priority.
So, I plan to build us a new platform. That said, I do still want to use Beyond for our character sheets, I would just like it if my interface could do things like deal damage or consume spells slots. Things like health bars that could be synchronized between DnDBeyond and my product.
As far as I can tell, DnDBeyond doesn't have a standard REST API? Do they have an alternative option that I could use to make things like that happen?
I in no way want to make DnDBeyond obsolete or steal information, I just want to be able to expand it and add additional functionality for my players. I love the Beyond character sheet and plan to use it for years to come.
They do not have a public facing API, and from what I recall, they are not interested in making one. At best, it is a very low priority item, so they probably will not even think about starting on it until several years down the line.
Hmmm dang. I know I've seen some programs consume DnD Beyond sheets before, but that was as a one time copy and not a real time update so I wasn't sure if it would be possible to deal damage in cases like that
Maybe a browser extension to read and manipulate the character sheet, but those are kept fairly sandboxed as I understand it, so getting it to speak to two sites at once might be a pain. (Looking at the few I use, the site and another program on the same computer seems doable.)
And it'll potentially break if they rework the character sheet page.
