When looking to buy a source book you have the option of buying parts of it if that is all you need (e.g. $2 for one subclass) and if you decide to buy the full book you can get that $2 discounted. I.e. if a source book is $30 and I buy one subclass at $2 the rest of the book is $28.
What happens if I buy 15 subclasses? If I buy subclasses/ feats or races one at a time at $2 a go do I get the rest of the book for free?
Is there a limit to how many times you can do this? For example after 10 individual purchases of a feat or race do the discounts stop and any future individual purchases don't get discounted of full book.
So, the cost of the book will go down each time you buy a part of it. You do need to spend a minimum of $2 I think to get the book, so it won't go below that. Why you wouldn't take that offer I don't know. It's pretty academic though. If you've bought enough bits to buy the whole for only a cent more this time, just buy the whole.
I haven't tried it, but I'm confident that you'll never get it to go negative if that's what you're asking. Just don't be silly and try to buy just one piece when the total is $2. just pay the extra cent and enjoy your savings.

I wouldn't expect it to go into negative, thought it might stop at least $2.
My thinking was in the sense of buying bits as you need them to save money now, at what point do you just buy the thing outright and how does the balance of paying pan out. You could buy one subclass or race only when you need it in a new campaign (could cover years) so at what point would you have the entire book or be able to buy it for the cost of one more optional item.
Obviously this has to be compared against the individuals ability to just save up the $30 in the time it takes to require a new subclass. However, if (like myself) you were looking at different subclasses etc. from multiple books you could chip away at them and then have covered most of their costs quick enough.
It'll tell you what the overall cost of the book will be. If you are buying individual bits, just wait until the cost is between $2 and $2.98, and once that is the case, buy the whole thing.
If you're buying in bulk (eg you're about to buy all the subclasses), then check if the book is less than(whatever amount you're about to spend is) +$1.99. If it is, buy the whole book, if not, then you can wait for next time. You won't lose out by buying it early - you just won't get to keep that money in your bank account. If it's a dollar or two, then it's not really an issue.

I'll run some test on it soon buying bit by bit and see how far I can get it or until it gets to $2. I'll wait and see if anyone else replies to this post first.
Another interesting part of this is the books that allow you to say buy 20+ subclasses for $9.99. Seeing if I buy 5/6 subclasses individually might be a smaller scale example of what will happen to full book.
