So I am an Australian teacher and we recently decided to move to a national curriculum and after reading and reviewing the Curriculum I found dnd could cover a large spectrum of the teaching in the english classroom, however my question is whether it is possible? My original idea was to develop a storyline using some Shakespearian novel as the basis, e.g. Romeo and Juliet, He's a human, she's an elf and their families despise each other, in the same turn have the kids control the characters in each scene, but my issue comes in as number of students to roles, has anyone ever done a shared role, e.g. a team of player play one character, of course this takes a large amount of prep but it is a way to make english fun again for them and me.
I can't see why it wouldn't work but I think it would be a bit of chaos (Which is always fun for students). Divide them into groups of say 2 or 3 and assign them a characters for a scene or a series of scenes. Then have them ad lib certain parts of the story by having them briefly discuss what they will do next amongst themselves then give a final answer. I wouldn't do a full blown dice roll make a character sheet etc due to all the prep work but I think the ad libbing would be a teaching gold mine. Let us know how it goes lol
I think that it would, but I agree that it would require a special set-up to work. One thing that could be interesting, and help simplify, would be to have set characters and parties pre-made, and then record how the students interpret their characters. 2 people might play an elf ranger in very different ways. Then, as the groups take notes and report what happened you can compare.
The other big thing will be to work with the group DMs to be sure they are up to the challenge.
Yes i completely agree a lot of extra work luckily i have another teacher who is well versed in D&D and is willing to help me with the trial so shall be able to do this come august cant wait to try

You only lose if you die. Any time else, there's opportunity for a come back.
I mean shoot they use it for group therapy so I'm sure it can work here
