Would it be possible to cast Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion everyday for the rest of the character’s life and solely use that spell to continue living? All their needs are being met minus social interaction if they would be living by themselves. What would stop a wizard from using this spell to become a recluse? They would never need to venture out into the world with the mansion holding 100 servants and being able to shape the mansion into anything they desire.
From a character depth perspective, it's worth noting that there are some things the spell can't provide - new reading material, rare spell components, etc. Survival and living are two different things, and even the most reclusive individuals still seek out a modicum of outside contact, even if it's solely for the purpose of obtaining things they can't produce themselves.
Some spells (for example Teleportation Circle) have the option to make something permanent if you cast it at the same location every day for a year. As DM I'd probably allow this for Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion as well even if the rules don't state it. Maybe add some quest line or other extra requirements.

There's no reason they couldn't.

There once was a spell Permanency, but it didn't make it to 5E. Use homebrew and the conversion rules.
playing since 1986
