Damn, you must have a pretty combat-heavy game if you're worried about dying with a group of that seize.
I do feel like your group is pretty well stacked with skirmishers, so you'd do best with either a healer or a tank, so with that in mind I would limit your character choices to Druid or Paladin, who have the potential to excel at both of those roles.
I'm not sure if you're looking more for gimmick builds or optimized builds, but I've got a few character concepts I've only ever partially conceived.
Grung Spores Druid wielding a spear, with a focus on melee attacks, since both Grung and Spores Druid give damage boosts to melee attacks.
Hobgoblin Conquest Paladin, not for any mechanical reason but just because the subclass plays well with Hobgoblin.
Fire Genasi Wildfire Druid, which I feel is pretty self-explanatory.
Half-Orc Vengeance Paladin... kind of a crit-fishing build, since Vow of Enmity lets you just get advantage against a single target for a full fight. Pairs well with either single-level dipping into Hexblade to be able to attack with CHA and crit on 19-20 once a day, or 3 levels into Champion Fighter for constant 19-20 Crits.
Warforged Stars Druid whose wild shape is treated more like a Transformers-style reconfiguration, and Starry Form is like disabling limiters or something temporarily.
Honestly, that sounds like a really cool idea for a character to bring into an Out of the Abyss campaign. I'd just go with yoru Conquest Tiefling if I was you.
The "sleeper agent": Any race or background you like. You were a slave in an Illithid colony but escaped but have a nagging feeling you were released and that the elder brain is monitoring the world through you, class wise its multiclass bard (whispers) and Rogue (Soulknife), manifesting the rogue soulknife psychic blades appears as spectral tentacles if you use them in melee but as a psychic blast if you throw them. Thte bard side gives you some useful spells and the bardic psychic blades pair nicely with the rogue.
Bugbear wizard-bladesinger Strixhanven college Witherbloom. You can also multiclass to provide some other usefulness or RP synergy. I like bloodhunter-wizard bladesinger and trading a language for thieves tools for many reasons.
Why bugbear? Well it seems as if you like unusual races and the bugbear also has some very useful (some GM's may modify abilities) abilities.

Here's a couple of ideas for you:
Firbolg or reborn Druid (moon): an idea I had a while back (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/story-lore/136892-rob76s-unused-character-idea-10-raven-the-redeemer), basically you summon creatures to pull their spirits form the shadowfell so they can go onto their correct afterlife and your wildshapes appear a bit more undead than they should do.
