After reading a lot of threads here on D&DB, it is often said that people just house rule this and that. From my own experience when I started around age 11, I do no house rules and then as time went on I gradually replaced AD&D rules with other systems rules or tacked on other systems rules to AD&D. About age 18 I started just creating (or trying to create) things I needed that I thought what ever system I was running needed (at times it was horrible and other times it worked). I also found that the more I house ruled things the more I could not use published material or I could just use part of the material and had to adapt the rest.
So my question is how to do house rule (minor, intermediate or extreme) and do you create you own material or adapt stuff from other games?
Thanks
