I'm making an Eladrin warlock using the race in the Mordenkainens monsters of the multiverse and under Trance it says the race stays retains consciousness how ever all the elves in the player handbook under Elf says they remain semiconscious. What I'm confused on is witch is correct version of trance
I'll check later on the specifics to see what you mean, but as a quick answer, specific beats general. If the description says something about the Trance for Eladrin in the book you got it from, then that is what it is, even if it contradicts what another book says about a different Elf.
As I said, I'll check soon as to what the differences are, but that'll be the ultimate answer. You take it for what it says in the source you got the race from. Different sources are irrelevant.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
I'm pretty sure that by "retain consciousness", they mean you don't go unconscious. In both instances, you go into a trance in which you're still aware of your surroundings, but mostly focusing on the Trance. Both could be described as "semi-conscious" and "retaining consciousness".
There isn't a contradiction to my mind. If you feel that there really is, then you go with MotM since that is the source for your race.

Ok, had a look.
