Hello all. I'm a DM and one of player's initiative seems wrong. He's a fighter with a +3 dex modifier, but his initiative is a +5. I've checked all of his equipment and there is nothing he has that is causing this. He is a champion fighter and he has no feats that are causing this either (that I can tell). Anyone have any idea what may be happening? Before telling him his initiative is +3 not +5 I want to make sure that is the case. Thanks!
What level is this fighter? Champion does get this, but it's level 7 +
Remarkable Athlete
Starting at 7th level, you can add half your proficiency bonus (rounded up) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check you make that doesn't already use your proficiency bonus.
In addition, when you make a running long jump, the distance you can cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Strength modifier.
Someone correct me if I"m wrong but I think initiative checks count as dexterity ability checks so things like this and a bard's jack of all trades affect it, the same way a death saving throw benefits from things that raise all your saving throw values like the paladin aura.
thanks for your replies. I was going to say I thought Remarkable Athlete as well, thinking it was his whole proficiency not reading half because his proficiency is 4. Thanks for posting. That is it!!!

The Harengon race also gets:
Hare-Trigger
You can add your proficiency bonus to your initiative rolls.
If he happens to be that race.
