Good luck Hasbro trying to replace Critical Role as a brand ambassador for streaming. Maybe they could do ok with Acquisitions Incorporated if they agreed to stream otherwise its gonna be a money sink. I mean they have to do it with Critical Role releasing their own game system, but good luck.
Damn, so - I was under the impression it was/there was going to be an actual serialised drama. Despite my cynicism towards the coproate monster that Hasbro is, I do want the hobby to be healthy and believe it can be indepdantly of Harisbo and their saccharine-sterilisation.
Anyway - I've watched the film a couple of times and stand by my initial thoughts - if you have a child that's capable of sitting through a film that long, that's the target market - and that's fine, I'm clearly not the target market, but I'm already into the hobby to the hilt, so... It's an alright film, the cast were likable, maybe 4/10 so far is it goes.
If I were to use a filmic medium to try and get someone into the hobby, I'd be sitting them down infront of the first 4 seasons of GoT as opposed to the film though. A live-action Vox Machina would be better than the film in my opinion. There needs to be something with some bite to it to bring folk in and I'm not sure we're going to get that at all - so I think the target market televisually will remain tweens+ I'd like something that generates excitement, like when I was a kid and would stay up with the TV on quietly for Twin Peaks because I had the sense I was watching something "adult" and exciting.
(Coming at it differently - I'd rather spend the time on my own campaign). Sessions could work, but I think there'd need to be some heavy editing to maintain good flow and a sense of excitement, but now I just feel older and more cynical than when I started typing.
Variety is reporting that Hasbro is starting a D&D streaming channel.
Mostly live streams, also the 80's cartoon. Available on "a number" of platforms.

I would like to watch the cartoon I saw some of them when they were on TV.

Me too. I feel like if I watch it now, I’ll think it’s objectively terrible, though. Might ruin the memory.
