Depends you can get reactive and do it, but I'd say that the centaur doesn't need a steed as it's part horse, it'd easily give others a lift, getting a lift could be tricky
RAW, I don't think there is. I don't have the original release, but the only issue might be weight (they should weigh a lot more than other races, which means that mounts have to be stronger to bear them, especially without penalty).
In terms of narrative and DM ruling, I'd say the mount has to be Huge or larger to account for body shape. The mounts body shape would also have to be suitable for it.
Still, that's not RAW and is a house rule (one that I'd recommend for immersion's sake). I'm not sure there is anything RAW stopping it.

The trick of it is, to mount a creature it has to have the appropriate anatomy to bear a rider. So you’d need something oddly shaped.
For find greater steed, I might just hand wave it. The steed in that case isn’t really a Pegasus (or whatever) it’s a spirit which took the form of one. I’d say the spirit would understand the needs of the rider in this case, and appear as a freaky-looking Pegasus that a centaur can mount. Partly because it’s a spell and not a real creature, and partly because not doing so seems like it would rob the character of a class ability for no good reason.
Also, you could look at dragonnel in fizban’s they have long skinny necks. Could maybe work?
Would it also help if I told you all I’m technically a Reintaur (reindeer) for a level 18 holiday themed one shot? Fun is the name of the game and I’m just trying to think of something ridiculous thats holiday themed. Currently a narwal that can fly through the air is leading.
I see little reason they would want a normal steed. But a few suggestions:
1. amphibian creatures for environment hooves don't work well -- maybe extra large alligators in swamp or whales on an ocean.
2. large creatures who amble and carry a bus worth of creatures.
Otherwise I would assume they would use vehicles or move under their own power. I would be more likely to give them wheeled vehicles to carry their stuff or creatures of burden walking beside them.

You can't go wrong with an Elf reference, but might I suggest a rocket-powered turtle

Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
As a "Reintaur", why do you want a steed at all, just to be silly? For a one shot, just steal the stats of a Horse and reflavor it as 6 kobolds (Santa's Elves) in a red robe weaing a jolly hat. The visuals are irrelevant as long as it behaves correctly mechanically.
maybe for a centaur the "summon steed" spell backfires and doesn't so much summon a steed to the character as it does put the centaur in a queue to be summoned by some other "summon steed" caster. in the middle of scratching their head with a spell focus and contemplating the wording of a Sending to divine tech support... poof! they're gone!

I mean ... in that case ... you can only really go with a team of flying Santa Claus's.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
My vote is a sleigh pulled by 8 flying fat men in red coats.
Maaan, I was about to come in here and be all snarky with, "Well, what kind of animals do horses ride in the real world?" but you already won the thread. :|
No, wait, even better, they should be biplane wings made of that white wicker strung with white lights that rich people use for reindeer lawn decorations so they can lie to themselves about being classy.
Huge colored bulbs are justice!

Is there anything preventing a centaur from having one and if so, what would work?

A second, more attractive centaur.
how about a chariot or sled? a platform, some wheels, a dozen motivated goats... you're all set!

I like how you think. My first impulse was "Magic Carpet" because that'd be one heck of a visual.
Fwiw it would be for the ‘Find Greater Steed’ spell as I’m going for the ability to fly.

However, if you want some kind of mechanical advantage, you should look into Horseshoes of Speed and Horseshoes of a Zephyr.

You could also say that the spell changes you and gives you some different movement types and bonus instead of summoning a steed

This is the best answer. If you're playing a reintaur paladin and you need Find Greater Steed to work, the spell gives you pegataur wings.
