Yes, starting equipment weighs a lot. That's why most tables use the simple encumbered rules. Fortunately, pack mules are relatively cheap. That can tide you over until you get a bag of holding if you used Strength for your dump stat.
You ever been camping where you had to haul your gear from the parking lot to the campsite? It adds up fast. I've heard from a lot of different places that soldiers throughout history have carried their own weight in gear while on campaign.

Mule is only 8 gold and can carry 420 pounds. Buy it in inventory and load your stuff on it. Just remember to buy feed for it. Which it can carry too.

And, in 5th edition, if you take the Guild Artisan background variant Guild Merchant, you can choose to get a mule and cart as part of your background. The cart increases the mule's carrying capacity four times! To 1,680 pounds! And you don't have to walk!

Is that weight how much more I can carry or is the bag just that heavy?
Weight of the pack PLUS everything in it.
Really? That sounds like alot? Osh gosh begosh
