I am still relatively new to the whole D&D and TTRPG scene and like many 5E was the first system I played. Or at least, the first one I put any appreciable amount of time into. Over time I've come to love the game (5E), the franchise, the books, and the video games so I want nothing but the best for you as a company and as the people behind this table top game that so many around the world love and enjoy. The memories created around a table with friends are priceless. Delving into an undead infested sewer to strike down the combined might of the Cult of the Dead Three and all the stupid shenanigans my table got up to will stay with me for a very long time. But there is something else that will stay with me for an equally long time: The fulfillment of power fantasy I felt as a player using Matt Mercer's Blood Hunter later in the campaign. However, recent information has put the community on edge regarding the potential future of content like the Blood Hunter.
True or not, the leaks are out there and information is circulating. Some parts of the leaked information have been at least somewhat corroborated via a public means which frankly lends a bit of credence to the rest of the leak. This leak is DEEPLY concerning for the future of Dungeons and Dragons. I will not go into the details of the leak as everyone involved in the TTRPG community has likely seen the information already but suffice it to say, it does not paint a good picture. That being said, what I find to be of an even deeper concern is the radio silence. How can you say, and I quote, "We love D&D, too. So, when we see the D&D community concerned by rumors and misunderstandings, we want to clear the air and share the facts with you, even if it’s a bit earlier than our original plan." while remaining radio silent on a much more damning leak. For context, that quote is from the OGLs, SRDs, & One D&D post made in late December in regards to a then rumor stating there would be no OGL going into One D&D. Now while we know that to not be the case, it still prompted a response from Wizards and relatively quickly. That information was VASTLY less damaging to the brand and image of D&D than this current leak.
I am not asking for a full top to bottom run down of the OGL explained by Jeremy Crawford. Nor am I even asking for the full OGL to be released ahead of schedule. The only thing I would ask for is to have Wizards take a look at the article going over the leak and address the specific concerns that the community has. By staying effectively completely radio silent you are leaving the entire community in a state of chaos and a sizable portion in a state of panic. By continuing to remain silent you are allowing speculation to spread. By continuing to remain silent, hate is growing on both sides. By remaining silent, fear is spreading. Wizards, it's time to break radio silence and say something other than look at the article we posted last month that talks nothing of the current leak. That is a non-answer and you know it. Please Wizards, say something so your community can calm down.
