This alleged leak bears some similarity to an earlier “leak” that turned out to be a hoax specifically designed to troll Wizards. According to the proponents of the new “leak”, more information should be publicly revealed on Wednesday (1-18-2023). Given there exists a legitimate question as to the legitimacy of this underlying leak, particularly since now would be exactly the time trolls would want to strike, the only intelligent course of action is to wait and see what happens on Wednesday.
Blame the suits. The top brass at WOTC are only interested in money and control.
I have no problem with companies making profit, but I do have a problem with spite.
D&D has given people the ability to create incredible fantasy worlds, rich with unique histories and filled to the brim with ever-expanding player-made lore. For many of these fantasy settings, homebrew plays an extremely important role in not only brining originality and charm to a setting, but also bringing incredible joy to the players involved. Through homebrew, your imagination comes to life. If you can think it, you can make it happen.
For 20+ years now, the OGL for D&D has been pretty good for content creators. Through D&D's own rules, people have been able to *shocker* make a living by playing D&D, and a majority of these content creators use homebrew. Some of these content creators (Critical Role for example) have even managed to create a show on Amazon Prime. Others have made supplementary rulebooks, YouTube channels, Businesses, Merchandise and all sorts of other D&D based content.
WOTC, who bought D&D back in 2018, are overly-paranoid, apathetic, passive-aggressive, egotistical and spiteful.
The content produced by third-parties has helped increase the popularity of D&D as a whole. But that isn't important to the suits. These are executives that RESENT people for making a living with D&D branding. That is what all of this is about, spite and control.
