So I've had a bit of a deep dive into learning about various races and while reading the Mordenkainen Monsters of the Multiverse I noticed it says Lizardfolk are extremely distant cousins to both Dragonborn and Kobolds but I can't seem to find anything else about this subject so I'm curious if there's any more information on their connection besides that lizardfolk primarily speak draconic.
If you mean "in-game", that's the lore. I am not sure how deep FR goes into it or what he basis is in Eberron or whatever in the other published worlds.
If you mean "meta", or in the history of the game, lol, well...
Way back when, Kobolds were basically a dog looking small version of lizard men, without tails. There were no dragonborn. Then Krynn came along. That more or less led to a later realignment of the small, big and more draconic dragon derived peoples in the standard lore so they could say "we have this kind of bad guy and this kind of bad guy and this kind of bad guy"
At least from the outside looking in and watching the changes over the years.

I was looking in general since I know the dnd multiverse kinda shares lore with its different setting but to elaborate I know Dragonborn have some draconic blood in their veins hence the breath attacks and such and Kobolds have extremely diluted draconic blood except maybe Urds who are Kobolds with wings and tails but i saw that Lizardfolk apparently had Draconic blood in they're veins but from a different post i found out that is apparently a very new thing that hasn't been fleshed out yet
