Tough to start

Really finding it hard with a place to start would like some direction if anyone could.

Start playing a game? Start running a game with friends? Start finding a place to play? Or start using the character generator on the site? 

If you are just getting into D&D, I would recommend going to a local game shop and seeing when they have open game nights (Ask about Adventurer's Guild.)

Otherwise, we will need more information about what you are hoping to achieve.

Are you starting as a player or as a DM? that will help us narrow down what advice to give!
