So, let me start with the fact that my party completed the MLOP in Campaign 1, but I cut the content of them meeting the green dragon because it felt unneeded to progress the story along and I spent my energy to strengthen the relationship and politics between King Grog, The Black Spider, and Iarno (a.k.a. the Glass Staff). I would like to introduce the green dragon to the party, but I wasn't exactly sure how to do it. I mean, Cryovain would most definitely be affecting the Green Dragon territory. I didn't want to just have a dragon fight happen where the green dragon would ultimately lose. I threw a ceremonial meeting in the heart of Neverwinter where Sildar was promoted to captain of the king's guards. The party worked with Sildar to capture Iarno and save Gundren. During the ceremony, the green and white dragons have a very quick clash over the city of Neverwinter, and the green dragon lands on a stage coach next to the party, injuring Sildar. Cryovain destroys a chapel with his frost flame, destroying all the windows inside the building. If there were any people left in that building, the whole thing would have become a demolished mess. The white dragon flew away, but the green dragon needs to call on the aid of the party somehow. This is the roadblock I put myself in. I have no idea where to take the story or what to call the green dragon. On one hand, the green dragon injured Sildar by essentially falling on him, and in retaliation, now the party is in a weird situation because they feel this could be a fight. Situationally, the green dragon's motivation is to have his territory back, but white dragons in the D&D dragons manual state that they are capable of making deals that serve them, so I wasn't sure if the green and white dragons should fight or be allies. I'm also torn about the green dragon because he learned to co-exist without drawing attention to his home. How can I approach the situation where the parties could fight, they could make an agreement with the green dragon, or some other masterful twist could make things interesting? I'm hitting writers' block on this and could use some guidance.
Green dragons are master manipulators. Venomfang would probably feel extremely slighted that he lost territory to Cryovain, but he would take his time in revenge. I would allow Venomfang to have the Shapeshifting trait early and let him slowly guide your party towards taking out Cryovain. Have him be a party patron, gifting them helpful items and information that will ultimately lead to his rival’s demise.
I have a friend running DoIP right now and this is the angle he’s running. His party LOVES the disguised NPC (I think it’s Halia) and are helping her take out the white dragon to restore order to “Halia’s business”. Not one player has suspected that Halia is actually Venomfang in disguise yet.
Holy crap, you have given me the best idea! I love it. The main issue is 3 party members understand draconic but haven't actually talked to either dragons yet so I might try to spin it that Venomfang notices they understand her and tries to understand their goal (Ultimately to kill Cryovain) one of my party members is a sorcerous with the white dragon as they anestrous bloodline. So I was trying to have a special player moment with the reveal that Cryovain can sense her power. This is gonna give me plenty of opportunities to plan something maybe the sorcerous could consume the soul of Cryovain at the very end or something? This is all major speculation of course
