I'm new to the game haven't play yet and I've made a few charthers on the dnd beyond app just manly playing around to figure out how I want my charther to be in game.one of my 1st charthers I made on the app is kavi and i had her be a wizard and something else with her backstory is that her parents thought her the 2 classes and my charther ended up being level 2 due to me douple classes. But I ended up changing it back to one class and left her as a single class. Has anybody done double classes for your chathers is it allowed,? I'm new to dnd and still learning. For any pro dnd and dm players has anybody done double classes like Wizard and another class? How did it turn out in campaign for playing?
You can multiclass as you level up if you have the stats for it. Multiclassing and it's requirements/rules are described in chapter 6 of Players Handbook.
The rules for multiclassing are optional so not all DMs allow it.
Essentially you start as level 1 class x, when you level up you may take another level in class x or, if you meet the requirements a level in class y
When you're new to the game, I strongly recommend sticking with a single class as you learn the game and avoid multiclassing until you're a more experienced player.

You can only start with 1 class and multiclass into a different one when leveling up.
