There’s a good reason behind this - you could join someone’s campaign, copy the subclass to make an identical “homebrew” subclass, and leave the campaign while still having access to the content. The content sharing policies are already generous - allowing homebrew copies would undermine the system by easily allowing the permanent sharing of content, even long after one leaves the sharing network.
Title says it all, but is it really not possible to use shared content as a base for homebrew?
Sounds like it's just shared to you and you don't own it?
