I did not write the new book, nor do I know what it contains, but...
Given that they both have different names:
Lost Mine of Phandelver
Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk
I'm assuming that the new book is an addition with new adventures in the same region.
Cheers!

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.

TSO is, in part, a rewrite of LMoP, and then continues the story.
I can't say for sure that LMoP will not be removed from the free adventures, but I imagine it's safe. TSO is different enough that it's not the same thing and it's a nice lure to get people into DDB.
However, only the staff really know.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but will the old (current) LMoP remain on DnDB after the release of the new Phandelver set?
