Hey! I'm converting one of my personal characters for fun, from a normal OC to a D&D character. I was curious what people might interpret his species as, since I'm struggling to choose a species myself. His name is Padda. Originally, he is a snufkin (yes, like Snufkin from Moomin). I wasn't sure what to convert his species to.
My first thought was perhaps something of goblin-esque, given his tail. But, there would be some trouble with that, being that he is much taller than goblins normally are, and that his ears were so elf-like. I've attached a picture to see what anyone thinks might fit.
I'm not opposed to altering his design much, but I would prefer to keep his design the same for his D&D character if possible.
Before the tail he struck me as a half-elf. So a slightly flavored half-elf would make sense.
But what kind of physical traits are you looking for? Since that might help better to get the mechanics you want first and then go with the reflavoring.
Flavored half-elf seems like a good way to go, I think.
I mainly would like to keep his ears and tail. I wouldn't mind altering skin color or physique as needed. Before alterations, his height is 5 foot 5 inches, since that does change based on species. I'd also prefer to keep him lean, but I may put some meat on his bones depending on the end choice.
I wouldnât get too hung up on cosmetic details like the suggested skin colour, ear shape and, to a certain extent, height and weight for a species. The species in Monsters of the Multiverse donât have height and weight suggestions: theyâre left up to the player (and their DM). If your character is 5â5â, then you want a Medium species and youâd probably want to avoid one with the âPowerful Buildâ feature. Having a tail is mostly cosmetic: Tieflings typically have tails but they donât have any mechanical effect. (My human Archfey Warlock has a donkeyâs tail and ears, âgiftedâ to her by her âlovingâ patron: theyâre there for roleplay, not mechanical effects.)
One idea would be Yuan-Ti, for the ability to cast Animal Friendship (on snakes) for free, but I donât know if the other features would fit your character concept.
In summary, go for a species whose mechanical features work best with your idea, and donât be put off by the suggested cosmetic appearance.
