Looking for up to 5 players who want to do a Halloween night one shot. Would start around 8pm mountain time US. Characters will start at lvl 3, no multiclass.
The story will begin in the frontier town of Knockon Wood, a town famous for its adventure tourism and its world class tavern and inn known as “ The Flatulent Marionette “. The adventure season has drawn to a close and there are just a few folks still lingering, preparing to leave before the winter strikes and the mountain passes become, well unpassable. You find yourselves sitting by the fire, drinking some spiced hot concoction and telling tales of the adventures had this season….
roll your character traits here, reroll ones but you keep what you get and make your character around any poor traits. Any truly disastrous sets of rolls can be remedied during play to some extent
His dad was a low level criminal in a crime family. The dad wanted a better life for his son and took him to a monastery in order to learn about a better life. Caine learned how to pick locks and shoot a bow at a young age and would keep his fingers nimble during his alone time as he learned the ways of the monastery. As Caine aged into young manhood, the Abbot took him a several others and pronounced they have graduated, and for the next step of graduation, these individuals will need to go out into the world and allow the world to teach them how they fit into the cosmos of life itself. Once that occurs they are to be welcomed back into the Monastery with open arms.
Gonna mull over some ideas, half-elf monk (MAD class with MAD rolls) or EK (also MAD, can use decent intelligence to get nice use out of a ranged cantrip and then melee weapons) V-Human: barb (try out berserker? one-shot means the frenzy exhausation isn't as debilitating, combine GWM and Reckless attack)
[[ sorry for multitude of posts; just getting stuff done before need to do something for a few hours (but will be able to do the 9pm Mountain start time) ]]
Name: Karl Erikson Class: Barbarian (Berserker) Race: Variant Human Background: Sage Sheet:https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/119736600/s9QQTa Backstory: Karl is a man of passions. Enthusiasm for the physical side but also a great appreciation for more intelligent matters. He's a language enthusiast and loves learning about the world but at the same time it can be dangerous while doing so. So of course he needed to battle-ready in order to dive into knowledge. Despite his intelligence he does has a mischievous side to him and will pretend to play the dumb barbarian, though often giving away by including complex words/ideas in his simplistic imitation. Potential Hook: If someone wants to have gone on an adventure with Karl prior to this one-shot, could help tie the party together. Perhaps we explored an old dragon cave, fought some kobolds, and found a tome of history? Motivation to do the Quest: One last chance for adventure before the season closes? Count me in! Perhaps it'll be the grandest tale of them all!
I do like how the stats rolled; might be a bit humorous to have the barbarian doing intelligence rolls (assuming now wizard/artificer).
In the service of a greater Vampire lord, Ghash is trying to break away from this service and finds himself in odd corners of the world in order to escape his former master. Generally josing in adventurous groups and getting into trouble. Will sitting by the fire sipping on some pig's blood diluted with wine.
A tall human with shaggy sandy-blonde hair sits near the fireplace drinking the spiced beer. "Hello there," he says, raising a toast, "Me Karl. Me have numerous intriguing escapades over this summer season and fight copious amounts of hostile antagonists to me quests. Fight bear with one hand one night." he smiles, "You?"
You enter the usually packed tavern hall to find only a few patrons feasting, drinking and telling stories of this season’s adventures. The lamps are turned low for ambiance, or more likely to conserve oil to save some gold. Carved jack-O-lanterns abound on every table and along the windows and stairways. The smell if the spiced mead wafts through the hall along with the scent of roasted boar, a recent kill from the story being circulated. Biggest boar ever seen by anyone. You three find yourselves sitting near the fireplace, having hit it off earlier in the season as you all went about your exploits. The Tavern Master Juggut Whittle Finger, a husky dwarf of great renown, is carefully packing away his many wonderful puppets, all made by his own hand. Lots of great entertainment was had in these halls.
( each of you can introduce your character by telling a short tale of one of your exploits in the local area, use the area map on the campaign page as reference)
Caine bends his skinny dwarven frame and sits cross legged nodding as he hears others speak. My exploits are paled in comparison and not worthy of your time to listen.
Karl begins going into more detail about the fight with the bear. "So me there in forest when bear come growling and gnashing its teeth. It charge but I held firm. It slashed at me and I brought my axe upon it but then it swatted it out of me hands! Me nervous at first but me remember: BARE ARMS TO FIGHT BEAR CLAWS! Me punch bear in nose, remembering bears' olfactory body parts have a high degree of sensitivity," he pauses for a moment, realizing he used bigger words than he probably should for his act, "and it slash me with big swipe. Left hand hurty so me put it behind back and then punch bear again. Me dodge its swipes and bites until me punch bear to permanent sleep."
He turns to Ghash Narzgul. "Me notice you have pointy teeth. What intriguing explorations has a post-mortem colleague of sangromancy been involved with in Knockon Wood? Have you perhaps been delving into the mind-body ramifications of Professor Grazzt Di'Yurl's doctoral thesis by examining the paranormal emanantions some report in the woods? I've always been more of a fan of Trix Yingol's parapsychological explanations but- er, um, pointy teeth man do blood stuff?"
As Caine downplays his own exploits Karl gives him an encouraging tap on the shoulder. "Come on, short beard man. Me sure you grand tales to tell. Even the smallest things can be epic sagas when told."

Finished. Apparently if you edit a post it does not go to the top.
Two questions.
1: which ruleset? 2014 or 2024?
2: You mentioned a 8pm MST start, what time would you estimate it going to?

8 pm start, haven’t considered a finish time. If some play rolls over to another day we can figure that out.
I will send the game link to you shortly
Works for me. I'd probably want to go no later than 2am Mountain for tonight. (Possibly 1am Mountain.) Got an All Saints Day Mass I want to go to.
