Well, I suggest you start by checking at your local game store for Adventurer's League play or groups you can sit in with. Let them know you are a new player looking to get into the hobby. There may also be clubs at school or work.
If you want to play physically, then your local gamestore is the best place to start. They'll either have groups you can join or know of where some might be.
There are other websites like Roll20 but I don't know how they deal with matching players to games.

Well, it depends on where you want to play.

If you want to play online, you can find groups on DDB in the looking for games forum, https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/looking-for-players-groups
You could also go to the D&Do Discord server, they have a channel there for it https://discord.com/channels/516367331358801950/1070720656917938227
