so for spells like cloud of daggers how do you get crit damage i see its a option but i dont know how to get it to do that naturally or if its even supposed to be a option
If a spell doesn't require an attack roll then it can't critically hit since you do so on a Natural 20. You could perhaps rule it where it achieves critical damage if they roll a Natural 1 on their saving throw. But with Cloud of Daggers I believe it's just damage when they enter the area so there are no rolls thus there would be no method of obtaining a critical hit.

Crit fails and crit successes (nat1s and nat20s) only apply to attacks rolls. Saves (such as Dex Saves, Cha Saves, etc) and skill rolls are purely pass/fail and so don't, by RAW, don't get critical successes and fails.
Many DMs do have crit successes and fails on skill rolls (not so much on the Saves) in their games, but that is actually a House Rule...albeit one that usually derives from misunderstanding the rules.
