Anyone know why there isn't a Paladin option for the Magic Initiate feat? I was originally thinking of having my Rogue multi class into Paladin a few months ago, but I didn't have the ability score for it so I took Fighter instead. I just had the idea to try using Magic Initiate as a work around, but there is no Paladin option. All the other spellcasters are available via it or Artificer Initiate, but not Paladin. I find that very interesting.
I also find it interesting that there is no Barbarian initiate-style option, Monk initiate-style option, or Rogue initiate-style option. Never noticed any of this until recently.
Expanding on Gilli’s answer, the Magic Initiate feat gives you two cantrips. Since Paladins don’t have any cantrips on their spell list, Magic Initiate (Paladin) would only give you one 1st level spell per day.
If you want the same feel, take Magic Initiate (Cleric).
True. The lack of cantrips is a slight issue for the idea. As for choosing cleric, I considered that, but we have one already, I have a higher CHA, and it doesn't quite fit the story progression the DM and I set up for the character. Good suggestion though
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Looking at the X-Initiate feats, they all give a pared-back version of taking a L1 dip in that class. Rangers and Paladins don't get spellcasting until L2, perhaps that is why you can't get a Paladin Initiate feat that gives you access to its spellcasting list.
As for the others...I'm not sure.

It's not about being powerful. It's just the Paladin's "thing". Smiting and Magical Steeds. It's not a problem table-by-table, but blurs the lines between classes even further.
The bigger issue is usually the spell Find Greater Steed, which a Bard can steal well before a Paladin can even access it.
Edit: Basically, if you have a Half-Caster in your party, it's rude to take the wind out of their sails. If you don't, then it doesn't matter so much.
You might also look at he 1DND feats and spell lists where clerics and paladins should be sharing the same ( clerical) list just as rangers and Druids will share the primal list.AND, Rangers ( and therefore probably paladins) now get spells and cantrips at level 1 ( in 1 DND only).
I saw that! I'm excited to see how it turns out for the other class groups. I know it's still early on for the One D&D test material, but hopefully we can see something similar by the end of it all.

Because Paladin, like Ranger, is not a full caster.
While Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock and Wizard are full casters.

I didn't even notice there wasn't a Ranger one. And that makes sense, but it'd still be nice to have something adjacent to it.

Well there are plenty of other options - Sorcerer, bard, warlock
Paladins also get a few unique spells that really shouldn't be easily accessible to other classes.
What's so powerful about Compelled Duel, Divine Favour, Thunderous Smite or Wrathful Smite that they shouldn't be accessed by any other class? I mean, the Smites and are powerful...but Searing Smite isn't much less powerful, if at all.

Wisea$$ DM and Player since 1979.
It’s Magic Initiate, not the class. You can take it and reflavor Cleric to say it’s Paladin.

I wanted compelled duel for my abjuration wizard how can I get that spell?
Take the Fey Touched feat.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Thanks that's brilliant!
