Hi, I was trying to play Dungeon n Dragons with some peers and family of mine. I played with a distant relative of mine as a child. And although I didn't like it. I'am now starting to feel that it was good for me. I didn't get into it all crazy. As I was into other things and the way it was perceived I guess would of been scene as cynical. Any how now I'm grown and mature and have my values pretty firm. Things are different.
What I can recall playing is. I always had a low-level character, I was almost never a DM, my turn was pretty repetitive. And we would fool around a lot but could be serious. Now my cousin was always enthusiastic and that's why I would agree. And we would have some parties believe it or not if even for a few times. Anyhow why I think it was good for me was the scenarios and suspense. We all were working together using our situational social awareness. Which in real life would only present the fight or flight response. Like we good get close to one another just enough to keep the game going. There was no drama or gimmicks and the joking around wasn't that bad. As if it renewed my wonder!
Right now I guess I'm trying to get my group to play but everyone has to have a different level of commitment. Besides I think it'd be a great, especially for young minds. JFYI I struggle with day to day stuff. How am I going to be the DM? I'll end it with this like anything you do it can be used for harm. But, playing dungeons and dragons is a great tool. Also to get out of our daily routines and grind and see life from a different perspective. Where you can just get away from everything without being criticized or scolded and be yourself. I took it for granted mand maybe even to the people who presented it to me. Anyways if you guys have some advice on how to start as far as what I need or some links it'd be greatly appreciated.
I'm a little unclear as to what you're asking for. You ask how you're going to be the DM...what is it exactly that you feel is an obstacle? We can offer solutions, but it would be useful to know what the challenge is, specifically for you. Like, are you asking what materials you need? Skills? Knowledge? Or do you want tips? Would you like to know how to prepare? Or how to organise a game? How to play?
If you could give us some guidance on what you're struggling with, we can help you figure out what you need to know to help you. The forum is quite helpful in that way.
