Has anyone seen/heard how the new digital books will be implemented into already existing campaigns on DNDB? Hopefully it was thought out prior so that you can toggle the new books/rules off in a campaign setting so all the PC's don't get mucked up if we want to keep with 5e until our campaign is done.
I imagine that you'll be able to continue using 5e characters. The rules are compatible with 5e characters, so I imagine they'll either just leave them be or give you the option of updating the character sheet. I really hope they don't force an update because my campaigns about to end - it'll be a headache if we can't use the characters and there are only a few sessions left.
Personally, I imagine the difference will be in the character creator. You'll either pick a toggle on that initial screen with the other toggles, or you'll pick, say, a Druid or Druid (Legacy).

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
It's speculative, and it would be great if someday before the release DDB explains what the policy will be as the 2024 books come online, but sunsetting publications in the marketplace while and maintaining legacy access to already owned content I feel more or less worked and I feel it would work well in this situations (almost like that first legacy move was an experiment for the future).

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
I am hopefully we can toggle 5e and 5.24 on or off in our sources like we can homebrew or critical role sources.
I am looking forward to a fresh start with 5.24. I suspect others will want to return to original 5e without the update. If people like backwards compatibility, they should be able to turn on both. I am hopeful that DDB implements something along these lines. Otherwise, it will be able absolute mess for my campaigns.

I would not expect them to update characters, though creating new characters might be more difficult.
I'm sure you can use the old races & classes but I'd bet they'll be marked as Legacy. See how they did this with Volo's Guide to Monsters, etc. Still usable, but clearly marked as using the older rules. Doesn't mean old 5e PHB races & classes will suddenly stop working, they'll just be marked as Legacy I'd assume.
Any existing characters still usable as-is but I really doubt they're going to magically update them to the new races/classes - but you can do that by editing the character.
Just like with every other book that you share with your players, you'll be able to enable/disable sharing the new PHB with players.
All that said though if you are buying the new PHB, or your players are, why not allow them to update their characters with the new races & classes if they match what they currently have?
Been wondering the same. It seems like the consensus guess, until we get official word, is it'll be treated like Volo's and other legacy stuff. I'm curious if I have a campaign at level 10 under the current rules, and then the new SRD comes out, when they level up to level 11 will DnD beyond apply the 2024 class features for level 11.

No word on DDB integration of the new rules yet

don't like the changes across the board, so will be using DDB or paper to keep rolling with 5e either way

also, looking at just going to GURPS or DCC and just getting away from Wizards continually ******* up what works

I doubt it, doesn't make much sense.
