I have a question from a player of my group, because we ended the last session as he was trapped in a magic field and could not escape. He splitted from the group to loot some gold and items. Now he is in a small room trapped and a black pudding attacks him. It is possible that he dies in this trap, because the others don't know where he is and he cannot open the door from inside. He wanted to cast dispel magic, but I think he cannot cast the spell if he is inside of the antimagic field,, because no magic in there. Or am I wrong?
Thanks for your responses.
PS The group told him to stay with the group and don't make things alone. He nearly died at a simular situation a while ago.
You're not wrong. All spellcasting is suppressed (and the spell slot is consumed if someone tries to cast a spell anyway). Additionally, Antimagic Field has a specific provision that states that Dispel Magic has no effect on it, so even if someone outside the field tried to dispel it, it would fail.

yeah... so your player should be ready with a new and different character, this is why you shouldn't sneak off and split the party.
Hi at all,

Ok thank you for your answers :)
Shame it was not a gelatinous cube instead of black pudding. That way his remains could meet the rest of the party coming towards them in a hallway...
