So hopefully soon I'm gonna be starting a campaign eith two of my friends (well one is my partner) and it's is just gonna be the three of us one dm-ing and me and the other person playing, which I know is unorthodox but our friends are really unreliable and we thought this would be fun with hopefully later having new friends to join in later in the campaign perhaps.
Our idea was to be two siblings one teifling (my friend) and an aasimar (me). My friends ideally wants to play a druid to both do big damage and support while I thought of playing a fighter to allow me to tank and do alot more (I recently played a pally and wanted to try smth diffrent)
Only problem I have is what do I do with it I'm mixed between eldirch knight and cavalier both in terms of playstle but also in what fits lorewise. For example I'm not sure how I make a celestial aasimar become an eldrich or echo knight so I'm leaning towards cavalier which sounds fun but I want to use spells in some capacity since we have a limited party number.
Any suggestions in how to make this work lorewise or perhaps multiclass options or just ideas anything would be nice :))
I like the Good Omens vibe. From Volo's: "Aasimar are born to serve as champions of the gods". So I would say any class/subclass could fit lorewise, as gods can be quite eccentric, er, I mean, *casts thaumaturgy for a booming voice* have unknowable plans and diverse needs.
Have you considered the Rune Knight subclass? It has some protection features like the Cavalier but is a bit more magic-flavored, though without spellcasting. Depending on what you want spells for (ranged attack? utility?) there are some interesting subclass options you might consider, like a 2-4 level dip for Twilight Cleric. I kind of like the idea of upsizing yourself for a bigger PBAoE for the Word of Radiance cantrip, but there's a bunch of useful Cleric cantrips depending on what you're looking for, and 300' darkvision is nice. Or taking 3 levels for Gloom Stalker Ranger - while the spells will probably overlap the Druid's, the first round bonus movement and bonus damage can stack nicely with the Fire Rune and the bonus damage from Giant Might. I am also intrigued by the idea of a Echo Knight with 5 levels of artillerist artificer for a more ranged-focused, semi-pet-class option. You can cast Fire Bolt for days and create a homunculous and a cannon alongside your echo which sounds a little bit like shenanigans. Picking up Shield at what would probably be level 8 is kinda nice, too. But would just going with whatever Fighter subclass and picking up the Magic Initiate feat give you what you're looking for?
A:thank you so much for saying how much of a good idea it is that means alot
B: I didn't really consider rune knight at first but that could be a good option gaining size to make more space as a tank would be a really good idea to be honest. Echo knight also was on my list I had the idea of it as creating echos to cover ground where I can't would be handy. The issue I run into is I still want to theme around angelic imagery with my charcter, I know my race doesn't have to define my charcter entirely and aasimar can fit anything but I fo like the aesthetic. I shall have a think tho thank you 😊
I love the idea behind the Crowley/Aziraphale vibe and the suggestions you have received are great. I would point out that a Druid juxtaposed with an Artificer (Battlesmith or Armorer) would have really leaned into the duality concept you've got going on. Nature vs Technology and all that. Maybe I'll convince someone to do that combo with me in the next campaign I play in.
