I'm getting back into playing after not having played since 3.5. I started playing 5e with some friends recently and I'm strongly considering starting my own campaign.
The trouble is that I currently don't have the 5e core rulebooks. I know that Beyond is supposed to give access to the main rule set and SRD. I also know that there are the new "2024" revised editions of the 5e core rulebooks coming out over the next several months.
If I pre-order the 2024 editions now, does that give me access to the current versions of these core rulebooks? Or does that mean I'm not getting access to a Monster Manual until the revised version drops in 2025? I would prefer the ability to start sooner than later and 2025 is still a long way off.
Additionally - am I perhaps getting ahead of myself? Is there anything of value in the core rulebooks that isn't already available for free on Beyond?
Sorry for the confusion I'm just very used to the "pen and paper" style of playing, and the official FAQs have left me feeling more confused than not.
A digital preorder will get you access to the new PHB in September. I think, if you want to go with the updated rules, that's all you'll need to get it going. There'll be enough there, plus free and homebrew stuff to get you by.

If you plan to buy the new Monster Manual in 2025 and don't want to also buy the current one, there are plenty of monsters of all CRs available for free in the current Basic Rules that you can use while you wait.

No, they are completely separate products.
