We’ve been told that the upcoming books will have details for adjusting 2014 subclasses to 2024 classes but no details on how that’ll work yet. I suspect it’ll mostly be “if you got this at level X in the 2014 rules you now get it at level Y” but it’s definitely on the cards
From what I remember JC saying the only issues are subclasses that come online at 1st or 2nd level. Those will now be 3rd level. And when you get a subclass feature you get the features of an old subclass up to that level. So a cleric will get their 1st and 2nd level subclass features at 3rd, etc.
2014 subclasses will be useable on 2024 classes with those adjustments. If the class gained their subclass at 3rd already there is nothing to change. Which makes me wonder if they did this instead of the standardized subclass feature progression in the early UA.
Not sure if DDB will delay prior subclass features (like the cleric example) automatically or not. We shall see
In my opinion, you can, even with classes like the sorcerer and warlock. For subclasses that gain their subclass at 3rd level, just use it like normal. For subclasses that used to be gained at 1st level, just look a the class table to see when you get a subclass/subclass feature, and for paladins (with channel divinity), you can replace a class channel divinity option with a subclass option, and switch them out when you gain a level. The only problem with this for paladins is that characters that use a 2014 subclass will have more channel divinity options than an all 2024 character. If this is bothering, then home-brew your own extra channel divinity options to have more at your disposal, or choose some that fit the 2024 subclass you are using from 2014 subclasses.

For example, can I use the Way of the Long Death monk subclass with the 2024 base monk rules?

I wonder if DDB will add updated 2014 subclasses or will we have to homebrew them ourselves.
