I have a long time friend and player from the late 80’s. And we still play D&D to this day. He has taken a new curve in his play style I did not expect however. It was always adventure, quests and battles as usual, but now he plays a female character with high charisma and wants to lure men with the premeditated plans to rob them and make a time eating habit of it. It is strange where this came from but I have never really dealt with this before. He wants to hit a large/port city with wealth and wants to know the population and such. I would like to pursue this for him a bit, but I don’t want it to turn into a thing. I don’t want him to feel ignored either, he seems excited at the prospect. The city we are coming to has a thieves guild, so I know there will be issues, but as I have never had to deal with this issue before, I would just like to hear some input/advice. Again, I want to humor him some here and there and generate personal experiences from it, but do t want it to take over the campaign as the others don’t want to go down that road personally.
sometimes things morph in a game and something that you didn’t expect becomes a vibrant living part of it and as a DM sometimes that’s the piece we have to latch onto and cultivate. The thieves guild already being present is a great way of curtailing his activities while still allowing him that creativity and storytelling he wants to do and then being able to control it with consequences and interruptions and things distracting him from it with the thieves guild.
to add if it’s your male friend suddenly doing something feminine that’s bugging you I get it, but this is a make believe world, and if he has some fantasy, he’s wanting to play out or experience. He wants to have the great spot for him to do it.
well I don’t play female characters. Generally, I do have a series of NPC characters that are female that have huge backgrounds to them that have been developed to be parts of the world, as well as love interest for character, characters, temptations, distractions, and massive, pitfalls.
Yes, I don’t have any opinions about role playing opposite sex and exploiting it, lol, I definitely want to let him experience what he wants, and I want to experience how to prepare and deal with it because experience is experience for any DM/GM. I just have never had to run anything along these lines and as creative as I can be, was just hoping a little input could jump start me in a good direction if anyone has played this peticular role before or DM’d with it. Appreciate all comments and inputs/ideas.
All my campaigns are homebrew I created and I’ve never went into the politics either, but that’s getting tossed in as well now and in future. I grew up on 1e D&D and only recently started playing 5e 2024/2025 where I noticed politics/class social structure are everywhere. I shall update myself appropriately.
Wether it's lure & rob or other actions player characters want to achieve on their own as personnal quest, i find the best way to deal with it while not spending too much time and attention on it is to roleplay interactions and ability checks to determine success or failure as well as the net gain. If it become reoccurence or redundant, to save time you can always design a table with the player onto which to roll to determine the outcome.

Sounds fun!
