I am playing a Festus Domain Cleric under 2024 rules, and my DM says that because I chose the Thaumaturge option, I do not get to benefit from the heavy armor proficiency that the subclass brings. They say that, because it was made for 2014 rules, that is why I don't get the heavy armor proficiency. I just need opinions on this.
I could swear I heard from somewhere official that the new books would include a rule that old cleric subclasses wouldn't get their martial weapon and heavy armor proficiency from their subclass anymore. Basically that you should ignore these proficiencies from older subclass and instead use the Divine Order feature to determine these proficiencies, so that you can't double dip I guess. Did I imagine this? Is this stated in the new PHB somewhere? I own a digital copy but can't seem to find any mention of this rule anywhere. https://100001****/
Yeah, it's not jumping out of any sections of the PHB or DMG. But, honestly, it's a fair call to avoid letting people game the system with 2014 subclasses and the 2024 Cleric features.

The closest I could find was the Cleric video, at 11:30, where they were talking about Divine Strike or Potent Spellcasting, which had these embedded in the subclass, rather than a class feature like it is now. I agree with Ace in now letting players game the system by looking for ways to get both, where it concerns armor.
