I was gutted to learn that the swashbuckler hasn't made the cut for the 2024 rulebook subclasses. Will DnD Beyond character profiles support old subclass that we have paid for but aren't listed in the updated rules? How will it be possible to keep using my swashbuckler in my ongoing campaign if we swich to the new rules?
All previous sub-classes will continue to be usable going forward. That's kinda what backwards compatibility means.
For the new books, each class only got four subclasses. The rest will likely trickle in as more books are printed going forward. For now you can keep playing your character with no real issues. In the future, when we get a Swashbuckler update, you can swap over to that if you want.

That makes perfect sense and is really helpful thank you!
Would I still get the benefit of the new weapon masteries, new feats and backgrounds playing as a Swashbuckler. Or would it need to remain the same and you can only update current characters with those new features once a supported update for the subclass is available?
You'll probably have to homebrew a "Swashbuckler" subclass on top of the 2024 Rogue using the UA information until they get around to a post-PHB splat book.

sorry if this is a silly question
That would be something you would have to ask your DM. On DDB you could still make a swashbuckler but I don’t think it would give you weapon masteries as I don’t know if the new rules on DDB will allow you to select 2024 rogue with pre-2024 subclasses. You would have to use the 2014 rogue presumably.
I did think that the recent video on the new PHB they said there was a section that discussed using older subclasses with the new rules (especially the ones that got subclasses before 3rd level) but I could be wrong about that.
Yes. You can. You can gain all the 2024 rogue stuff with the swashbuckler subclass even though it’s 2014 :p.including masteries, feats and backgrounds.
That was in Player's Handbook Playtest 6. They ultimately dropped it from the final product in favor of Soulknife, but I'm not sure if that was because of issues with Swashbuckler itself or just because they preferred Soulknife for flavor / narrative reasons.

You're responding to an assumption made before the new PHB even released on DDB. 😅
But yeah, weapon mastery is a class feature, and therefore determined solely by your class choice -- not your subclass.

Check out the Homebrew section, some players have updated older subclasses to the new format.
In Swashbuckler's case, there was even a UA for it.

Where would I find that?

I kinda assumed the goal was to have one psionic subclass in each class if able to do so; Psi Warrior, GOO (kinda), Abberant Mind, Soul Knife.
(Psionic Barbarian and new Druid subclass wheeeeeen).
