I'm building a custom D&D table for my games room and I'm looking for the best ideas to go into it!
Currently it's got a large TV screen in the centre for the game maps to be shown on (& for minis to be put on), and I'm planning to include USB sockets for people to charge phones, and drinks holders for everyone as well. I'm going for a antique green (faux) leather top for the play areas to make it more comfortable to lean on and to look awesome!
What else can I include? I feel this may be "version 1" with a view to make it, sell it, and then make an improved version!
As an additional point to this, the table is intended to work as a hybrid bridge to a distant player who has moved away, so that we can continue the campaign - they will play on a VTT, we will play on the same VTT with actual minis, in person, displayed on the TV table!
So any ideas for this as well would be gratefully received!
One thing I've taken away from my research is that many of these tables are impractical to play at with paper character sheets and real books, so I'm making sure they have enough space to use the table properly as a table - room for A4 sheets and proper D&D books all round!
I'm considering drawers around the table for people to store things in, and need a cover for the TV to keep it safe from the cats!
Avoiding built in dice trays as my players all have their own fancy dice trays so I'd like to let them use their own things wherever possible. I'm considering telescopic aerials with magnets on to use as flight stands, which will fit to the frame around the tv, as many players have flying speeds now.
Sounds like an awesome build. I follow a guy on instagram that goes by “paladinwoodworking”. He’s got a crazy LOTR gaming table he built along with other cool gaming accessories. Really awesome stuff, maybe you can find some ideas there.
Bookshelves or storage for notebooks for those that take physical notes or use physical books. Also a cubby for cleaning supplies, because you are going to get stuff on that center TV screen and want the stuff you know won't damage it, or the surrounding material.

I think you cannot overestimate the value of AirPlay and a secondary wall mounted TV for background maps, images and scenery to help set the stage or a second perspective of the vtt. You can share it as a second screen for remote players as well. I dont know if you ever use a BattleMat, but the group of college players I DM for love the simplicity and rolling physical dice on it. So a co-mounted camera for the group you remote player can view -(or pole / ceiling mounted camera) that you can stream them and the battlemap on is really good for cohesion. We used an iPad to do this on a tv tray with rubber bands LOL but if you are going all out.. I would say drill a corner hole to place a removable pole and add some mounts to that pole.

Dice tray/holder
Place to keep a couple of minis
some place to store napkins/paper towels so players don't get pizza sauce all over everything (Dave!)
Good suggestions!
